The Courtship.
Ra's Al Ghul's ship already sails in the Caribbean.
They are diving, having a drink, talking when
at a pleasant evening, the Count asks Dinah's hand to birth his son. So, both
girls, Dinah and Talia get mad about it.
Dinah does because she can't have children. Firstly,
Al Ghul consoles her and promises her that he makes her childbearing able
again. So he should not have said it, Dinah gets mad again.
Talia complains that after she has done all for
her father, he wants her to replace for a boy. To give weight her grievance,
she attacks at her father by a knife. But after calming down, she apologizes to
him.
However Al Ghul is trying in vain to pacify Dinah.
Then Talia and her father paddle to the beach
to prepare the local Lazarus pit (for Dinah?). Black Canary sneaks after them,
so finally she knows too that her suitor is the demon's head. Of course, she
gets caught. Al Ghul maintains his offer, but Dinah refuses it, so she has to
die.
Fortunately Oracle knows that Al Ghul's Lazarus
pits are on the intersection points of electromagnetic Ley-lines, and she has
discovered Al Ghul's yacht in a satellite image close to one of them. So she
knows where Dinah is and she sends a superhero-brigade (Powergirl, Blue Beetle, Mace aka Militia and his pilot, Honey) to escape Dinah.
Chuck Dixon's story is simple; there is hardly
any action in it in exchange for a very pleasant atmosphere. I have two
problems about it. On the one hand, there is a connotation that these women are
totally incomprehensible; on the other hand, it has made virtually completely
irrelevant the Jason Bard's thread which has dominated the story so far.
After two months of nap, Butch Guice returns to
draw. I have been previously observed that after the naps he has always
improved dramatically in quality (so that it falls again). That's right now, so
that it is almost perfect. His slightly melancholy pictures and pages are in
perfect harmony with the mood of the story so those perfectly complement each
other (for example, when Al Ghul ruefully drinks, and he sees Talia in
reflection of the glass, it is very awesome). So they can prepare a delightful
booklet from a faint story.
