Return to the main story. We left it that the
prison rebellion was successful, but they have not been able to break out of
the Slab, but the all super evil is Jokerized. Black Canary has penetrated into
the Slab, Blue Beetle covers her from the outside and Batman has appeared at
the scene. Oracle and Nightwing have only recently learned of the developments.
Shilo and Dina are trying to get out of the Slab.
Nightwing immediately starts off to the Slab,
while Oracle looks back the events in the monitor room and informs Nightwing
about the developments: namely that Black Canary is in big trouble. Shilo and
Dina are trying to get out through the undersea tunnel. Meanwhile, they run
into the man-eaters of the marine department, Orca and King Shark. (You can see
now Slig escape.)
Meanwhile, Joker and the others prepare to do
something by Black Mass. However, Nightwing already has intruded and suddenly
finds himself face to smashed members of the Justice League.
The dying Wonder Woman whispers in his ear that
everyone is dead, and no other handled them as Bat-Mite.
But a few things are fishy to Nightwing: first
of all Bat-Mite himself, then Aquman's old costume, and the Green Lantern wears
his ring on the other hand. Wonder Woman answers these observations with a
passionate kiss. Then Batman appears and knocks out her. It turns out that she
is not Wonder Woman but Lady Spellbinder (she is jokerized of course, that is
obviously why she has came forward with the idiot Bat-Mite), and it was all a
figment of the imagination. Except black canary, who has been beaten really well,
but before passing out she can falter out that Joker prepares some terrible
thing. Batman gets his shoulder Spellbinder, Nightwing does the some with
canary and they run out.
Meanwhile, Joker opens a (dimension?) gateway
by Warp. The whole thing is not over-explained, the creators devote just a few
frames for it: it's a blast and the evils enter some yellow-looking thing
(plasma? Cloud?).
This is Black Mass' time (otherwise, Joker has
missed here poor mini Multi Man who was shriveled in the previous issue and now
fights with a spider). The alarm clock goes off, he claps his hands, and the
whole SLAB be falling into a black hole or something by his special ability
(which is still not quite clear to me).
Batman's team gets out in time and they can
escape by Blue Beetle's Bug while Canary informs the others of the details:
Joker's brain tumor. However Dina and Shilo get stuck in the Slab.
Oh yes, Joker revived the bizarre monster,
Chemo, but it does not look as if it would be any significance in terms of the
story. Maybe they just had to fill two pages somehow.
Chuck Dixon's story continues to be quite
complex, in addition he does all that the important things look like
insignificant to force constant rereading to the readers even from later
booklets as well. For example, I knew two issues away that Joker had left the
slab before Black Mass's action. Well, so it's not very nice of him. So the
whole is confused but imaginative. The Shilo-Dina thread by Scott Beatty looks
less unnecessary than last time. The drawer is new, Marcos Martin, but I did
not notice it. His draws are like Pete Woods, maybe his shapes are just a little
bit more angular, and he feels considerable affection towards the big heads.
Service Notice: Members of the Justice League
members are not labeled, because they were just visions anyway, and there was
even some marginal figure: Copperhead and Sonar; and they were also not
labeled.
