The Return of Parallax!
Spectre is none other than Hal Jordan, the
second Green Lantern (The Green Lantern), who became the super evil Parallax or
at least his hosts or something like that. He currently is dead, but the spirit
of vengeance, Spectre has chosen his soul (not his body) for his hosts, and he
has decided to use the power of Spectre for not revenge, but redemption. Well
it is pretty complicated.
The actual story is not really understood
without detailed knowledge of the background (which I do not know), so I write
only keywords: Spectre tries to redeem Joker, but when he (Spectre) penetrates
his (Joker's) mind, he is jokerized and once again transforms to Parallax.
Or rather, Parallax tears out of him, because
he exists as Spectre too. But finally hi gives up himself to Parallax, in
exchange for Parallax's word that he (Parallax) not will hurt his (Hal Jordan's)
niece, Helen.
But it was only a ruse to rid of Hal Jordan who
only limits Spectre's power. And so now he (or rather not he but the Universe)
is able to absorb Parallax.
JM DeMatteis's story is majestically, slowly
flowing, intimate and quite philosophical in tone. But I am afraid that it
seems so confusing not only because I have not knew the preludes. The drawer,
Craig Hamilton works with lot of lines, his meticulous technique is very
different from the fashions but definitely enjoyable,
and often definitely
artistic (thanks to the great panel editing as well).
Service Notice: Another Green Lantern, Abin Sur
also appears, I labeled him too.
