Birds of Prey v1 018 - Victims of War

The Hateful.

We start with action: Dinah rescues two children in a city under gunfire.

After four pages of bombing they manage to reach the subway where Dinah hand over the consignment to the gratitude mom. She is in Tbliskában, capital of Transbelvia, because Oracle has accidentally bought air-ticket to here instead London. In the subway, Dinah meets an English speaking girl, Anya V'Rinia who tells her that the Transbelivans are in long warfare with the Krasny-Volnans since the latter believe that the former had betrayed them to the Turks in the 13th century.

Dinah: And did they?

Anya: Who remembers?

Dinah: Who cares?

Anya: Hate does not always need a reason.

Dinah reveals her identity and tells that she was in Uzbekistan to prevent a nuclear missile fair, and they laugh at how much joke masters are the Americans, Oracle is mad at home because she wanted to hear some cover story. Then she calms down because she is called by her ex-fiancé, Jason Bard, who is still blind, although he did not seem to it last. (However, Dinah hears that Oracle is called Babs, so already she knows Oracle's name).

Meanwhile, it turns out that Anya's father and brothers were executed by the Krasny-Volnans death troopers. They were shouted down by the candy vendor, from whom she bought often chocolate.

The situation is compounded as a result of the gunfire the top of the subway station is ripped. The kids are hungry. A Man has a bag of food, but he pretends not to hear the prayer of the mother. Dinah tries to get a bit of assistance in a stronger manner.

During the scuffle, a newspaper falls out of his bag,

from which it turns out that the guy is Krasny-Volnans. The others immediately want to lynch him; Dinah can restrain them by only some scuffle.

But then.

Anya strikes him death by a stone.

The NATO troops have liquidated the gun positions, so Dinah can go home.

It was the gravest and the most serious adventure of the girls. It's Very pessimistic in tone, Dinah is unable to do anything to prevent the tragedy, and she is merely helpless spectator of the drama. Chuck Dixon has pulled oneself together. However, this story finally says goodbye to human rights struggles in the third-world which characterized the team at the first time.

The drawer is again (unfortunately not Greg Land, but) Dick Giordano, and after Butch Guice, we can just be happy for him (unfortunately not for long).

At the last two pages of the booklet, it is a prologue of the following thread: Oracle has token millions from accounts of Blockbuster, who, therefore, is very angry.
